PendoTECH UV-Vis sensor
In bioprocess operations, the UV absorbance of a liquid solution can identify the presence or absence of the molecules in question. The measurement, usually 280 nm, is carried out by a spectrophotometer, either inline or offline in a cuvette. A collimated light beam cuts through a sample with a defined path length and the absorbance is determined on the basis of the ratio of the applied light from the source to the amount of light that went through the sample.
The PendoTECH single-use sensor makes non-invasive measurement possible using a UV flowcell. The flowcell can be part of a single-use process assembly consisting of hoses, bags, filters and other sensors. The measurement is made by means of a compact spectrophotometer with fibre optic cables.
This flowcell contains a special glass window in the wall and compartments to which the light source and detector can be attached. The flow to be measured flows between the windows through hoses that have been attached to the hose spout tips of the flowcell. Although the system is designed for single-use applications, it is robust enough to be re-used.
